Guido's house is a rare piece of real portuguese nobility in the hills of Rio de Janeiro. With traditional accommodation scarce in the city, this neoclassic mansion with spectacular views of sugarloaf and Baia de Guanabara is always my choice when I visit the city. The rooms are impeccably clean and a good size, with wonderful furniture and linen. The decoration is fresh and respects the original style of the house. Above all, it is in the heart of old Rio, far away from the chaos of the buses and streets and high rise buildings. Still, a ten minute walk down the hill on a friday night and you find yourself in the middle of Lapa, the world's biggest street party. Go and stay in Santa Teresa, and at Guido's house, for a far more romantic and pleasant, dreamy experience of the marvelous city. Thomas Reddaway, London stayed ten times
